Reason #5 Why Plymouth, MN is Rated as Best Place to Live in the U.S. - Plymouth Pet Owners Catch a Break
January 17th, 2010 Categories: Local Ordinances, Plymouth "News", Real Estate News

With over 70,000 residents in the City of Plymouth, it’s estimated that more than half are pet owners. Little did I know, Plymouth required that these pet owners needed to buy pet licenses for their animals to the tune of $3.00 a piece. Turns out, the city has realized that since only the law-abiding citizens of Plymouth actually buy these licenses, they are also the ones who keep track of their pets.
They’ve also realized that sometimes it’s a good idea to quit doing what doesn’t work!
(Above is a picture of “Babyboy”, courtesy of a friend of mine, Andrea Johnson.)
Plymouth City Council has recently voted to discontinue the licensing of pets. They figured out that it cost the city more to administer the license process than the $3.00 it took in for the license. What’s more, only 2,262 dogs and 244 cats were licensed. I am happy that the city council is fiscally responsible enough to own up to a bad idea. They, in essence, are saving the tax payers some money.
Plymouth limits the total number of cats and dogs in one household to four. There is still a multiple animal license if you have more than four. The license costs $50 and an inspection of the home or property is required. (Yikes!) If you have any questions regarding the rules and regulations for multiple animals, call the City of Plymouth 763-509-5160.

First Time Home Buyers Listen Up! You May Want to Move to Plymouth!
March 11th, 2009 Categories: Plymouth "News", Real Estate News, Twin Cities Home Buyers
The Plymouth Housing and Redevelopment authority (HRA) offers programs to help renters purchase their first home.
This is how it works:
- This is a zero interest deferred loan of up to $25,000, with the Plymouth HRA holding a second mortgage on the property.
- Financial assistance can be used for up to 50% of the required down payment, 100% of allowable closing costs up to $5,000 and for reduction of the mortgage principle.
- Repayment of the loan is required if the home is sold or no longer homesteaded within the first 30 years of ownership. After 30 years, the loan becomes due and payable.
- Applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Program guidelines and income requirements are subject to change.
It sounds like there are a lot of catches, and there are. If you want more information, please call the City of Plymouth at 763-509-5413. Then, call me and we’ll chat about your new dream home in one of the best places to live in the U.S.!

Xcel Energy Feels My Pain…Er, Sort Of…
March 10th, 2009 Categories: Plymouth "News", Real Estate News
The Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Minnesota Office of the Attorney General Residential Utilities Division, along with Excel Energy, decided that it would address the issue relating to the service outages that my neighborhood in Plymouth, MN frequently puts up with.
To our surprise, Tony (my hubby) and I received a letter from Excel letting us know that they are going to credit our account with $50 because we experienced at least 6 interruptions.
We have a very strange situation in this neighborhood and one of these days I’m going to look into what is really going on. Basically, the underground electrical lines are just plain old. I am very happy that Excel has owned up to this problem. I’m sure that the Commerce Department had plenty to do with refunding our money and I appreciate it!

Reason #4 Why Plymouth, MN is Rated as Best Place to Live in the U.S.
January 21st, 2009 Categories: Plymouth "News", Plymouth Current Housing Statistics, Real Estate News
There are several reasons why Plymouth, MN was chosen as the Number One Best Place to Live in America. I’ve mentioned some of them in past posts.
Here’s my very favorite reason…especially, since I live in Plymouth. The values of our homes remain high compared to other communities in the Twin Cities and the rest of the nation. Only Edina and St. Louis Park fared better than Plymouth. Here’s the low down on the entire year for Plymouth.

December 18th, 2008 Categories: Plymouth "News", Real Estate News, Silly Property Repairs, Taste Minnesota, The Good Life
Here we go again. Another chain in Plymouth.
Not a huge chain like Chili’s or Applebee’s but a chain, none the less. I’ve been to Jake’s City Grille in Eden Prairie a few times. Actually, I’ve had a blast every time I went.
The first time I went was with a really cool lady that I was introduced to by my BNI buddy, John Branstad at Leadership By Design. It was a “blind date” and Read the rest of this entry »

Reason #2 Why Plymouth, MN is Rated for Best Places to Live in the U.S.
October 3rd, 2008 Categories: Cool Guys, Plymouth "News", Real Estate News, The Good Life
We are lucky to have Discover Strength, a personal fitness facility, located right here in Plymouth, MN! As I have stated in my previous post about my personal training at Discover Strength, it helps me in my personal life, but it totally helps me keep my stamina and good nature in my real estate life here in the Twin Cities. My personal trainer at Discover Strength, Luke Carlson, has some great words of advice for those of you who are running the Twin Cities Marathon this weekend.
“Good luck to those of you running the marathon this weekend (or Chicago/Whistlestop next weekend). If you are not running and plan on watching the marathon, the DS staff will be watching just before mile 24 at Summit and Lexington - stop by and join us for eating, drinking, and cheering on runners! Watching a marathon is truly an incredible experience!”
Here are some more words of wisdom for you runners:
Tough Thinking for this Weekend’s Marathon and 10-Mile Runners
(adapted from Dr. Jim Loehr’s book “The New Toughness Training for Sports”)
One of the greatest secrets of peak performance in sport: sustaining a here-and-now mental focus during competition makes the natural expression of your talent and training easier. During battle, thinking about the future lets fear beat you; thinking about the past lets anger and frustration beat you. Aim to maintain a moment-by moment focus during the race.
When old man fear has you by the throat, look him straight in the eye, smile inside, and with all the conviction and passion you can pull from deep within your soul, think – or better yet, say out loud: “I LOVE IT!” “Tough Thinking” is based on your ability to use words and images to control your Ideal Performance State. This means disciplined thinking and visualization during competition. Tough thinking will keep you from panicking when things get crazy and prevent you form surrendering when the battle appears lost. Here are some examples of tough thinking. It is a great idea to pick 2 or 3 “go-to” phrases or words that you can continually repeat to yourself during the race. Pick a few words or phrases and repeat them to yourself throughout the entire race.
“I’M TOUGH ENOUGH”
“I’VE PUT IN THE TRAINING”
“LOOKING GOOD, FEELING GOOD”
“I FEEL STRONG”
“ONE MILE AT A TIME”
“I LOVE HILLS”
“BRING ON THE PAIN”
Or my personal favorite: “JARED MONDRY’S GOING DOWN!
When your back is squarely against the wall, think:
“THIS IS REALLY TOUGH – BUT I’M A WHOLE LOT TOUGHER”
When facing the hill on Summit Ave, say to yourself:
“BRING IT ON! BRING IT ON!”
When you feel tired, burned out, negative, and weak, think:
“TODAY WILL BE A GREAT CHALLENGE FOR ME. I’VE GOT TO BE SUPER-TOUGH TODAY TO MAKE IT. I’M GOING TO HANG IN THERE NO MATTER WHAT! NO EXCUSES!”
When things get painful and you feel like abandoning ship, think:
“I NEVER SURRENDER! NOT ME. NOT EVER! I WILL FIGHT UNTIL IT’S OVER. AND IT AIN’T OVER TILL IT’S OVER!”
Love the process, the fight, the marshaling of your resources, the pushing, the falling back, the breakthroughs, the struggles. Loving to win is easy. Loving the process moves you to a whole new level of competitive skill. Love the battle!

Reason #1 Why Plymouth, MN is Rated for Best Places to Live in the U.S.
August 11th, 2008 Categories: Plymouth "News", Real Estate News, Taste Minnesota
I haven’t been able to drink coffee for several years due to my sensitivity to caffeine. A couple of months ago, I’d thought I’d give it a try just to see how I felt.
I had a couple of gift cards to Caribou and Starbuck’s. I just like good ole’ black coffee. None of this fru fru stuff for me! The coffee was good. Just good. Nothing to rave about. The good news was that it wasn’t affecting me like it used to.
A couple of years ago Dunn Bros Coffee opened in Plymouth at the corner of Vicksburg and Hwy. 55. They have a secret Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 rank: #1 Plymouth, Minnesota!
July 18th, 2008 Categories: Plymouth "News", Plymouth Current Housing Statistics, Real Estate News, Twin Cities Real Estate Economy, Wayzata Public Schools
What’s so good about Plymouth?
Heck, I live here so of course I’m going to have a few complaints here and there. But mostly, the place is great.
- Boring? Yes.
- Safe? Yes.
- Value? Yes.
- Pretty? Yes.
- Gorgeous? No.
- Rockin’? No.
- Serious? Yes.
- Crazy? YES!
Why? Well, Plymouth stretches from Highway 169 to a little past Highway 101. The vastness of this area makes for a huge difference in types of population (demographics).
For the most part, the east side reflects Armstrong High School and a lot of apartments and Section 8 town homes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
The west end is made up of single family homes that range anywhere from $200,000 to $1,000,000. Yes, that’s right…$1,000,000. The majority of kids go to Wayzata High School. But there are Section 8 town homes and condos in this neck of the woods, as well.
